The sweltering month of July is here and it’s time to celebrate all it has to offer. This month is jam packed with things to do—from Independence Day and fireworks to enjoying pints of ice cream (this time, for a good cause!). We’ve got some great ideas for ways to celebrate the Fourth of July and have included a tasty Honey-Chipotle Barbecue Chicken sandwich recipe that is sure to please any crowds you have over on the holiday. Summer is gearing up to be one of the best yet for Team Goodness. We’ve been planting trees throughout the month with our “Plant-A-Tree 2010” program (number of trees to be announced in August); we’ve launched a new award program for kids with our first honoree awarded in late-June; and we are giving blood this month during July’s "Pint for a Pint" program with Blood Source in Sacramento. It’s going to be one hot summer of goodwill and charitable endeavors! We wish you a safe and happy Fourth of July. Enjoy all that this month has to offer and keep cool. Let Freedom Ring This Independence Day! When you think of the Fourth of July, the first thing that probably comes to mind is fireworks— massive, bright, and loud. Although fireworks are the traditional celebration on Independence Day, the first celebration was America’s declaration of independence from Britain. The document declaring the thirteen American colonies as independent states was signed on July 4th, 1776. A copy of the Declaration of Independence is on display at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. If you are looking for something adventurous to do for the holiday, take a family vacation to Washington, D.C. to view the history of the United States of America. If you’re staying closer to home this holiday, you can always plan a relaxing day cooling off from the hot summer sun at your local lakes or rivers. Or, soak up the sun and enjoy great food, exhibits, and rides at your local state or county fairs. No matter how you choose to spend the holiday, make sure you have an enjoyable Independence Day.
