The Magical Month of May!
After months of winter cold and April showers, May is blossoming with flowers, sunshine and the hint of summer. It's a great time to get outside and play and there's no better way than dusting off the 'ol bicycle and taking it for a spin.
In addition to being the "bicycling" month, May is also the month of health and well being. To show our support, we joined in Susan G. Komen's Race for the Cure. Voyage Team Goodness's 20 team members walked, ran, or slept in, Saturday, May 8. We are proud to announce we raised $1045, plus the $35 fee per person to join the walk, and our donations will go to research for a cure for breast cancer.
Corrine Blackney is one employee who has a personal connection with the event. Learn more about why she's fighting for the cause in the Employee Spotlight.
And, if you didn't get a chance to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, don't fear! We're sharing a recipe with you that's sure to put you in a festive mood and spice up your kitchen.
Que Es Cinco De Mayo?
Cinco de Mayo literally means "five of May" in English. But as you can guess this is not originally an English holiday. The holiday began in Mexico to commemorate the Mexican army's victory at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza Sequin, the army took an incredible defeat of the French forces.
VOYAGE'S TEAM GOODNESS ACTIVITES
Last month Voyage Home Loans supported the Sacramento Earth Day Festival in their efforts to make the earth a "Green" place. The festival took place from 12 pm to 5 pm in the Southside Park in downtown Sacramento. Although Mother Nature tried to spoil the event with a cold and windy day filled with rain, many people attended the event. The band continued to play through the rain and the vendors continued to share their information on protecting the environment.
Coming in June...
Voyage employees will be volunteering at the Mather Field Sports Complex, in Rancho Cordova. A few team members plan to share their knowledge of sports while helping children to improve their skills. They are hoping to not only make a difference in the children's skills, but in their lives through their assistance.
