The past few years have been difficult for so many with the declining economy, the housing slump, and massive job losses. While some organizations and individuals have been able to regroup, others, like community school teachers, continue to feel the strain. From pink slips to district funding cuts, teachers’ concerns range from educating their growing classrooms, keeping their jobs, and supplying their students with necessary supplies and materials.
This month, Voyage Home Loans will be partnering with Rancho Cordova’s Sierra Office Supplies and supporting Cordova Villa Elementary School. The two organizations will be supplying the school with paper, recreational items, and enough school supplies to support their two special education classrooms until summer break.
Cordova Villa Elementary School is located a few blocks from Voyage headquarters in Rancho Cordova. The school has 480 students, 23 classrooms and has received the lowest grade on Great Schools Rating of 1 out of 10 for test scores and student statistics. The school provides basic supplies for the school year, but often the teachers need to supply more for their students. The special education classrooms do not receive any funding for supplies throughout the school year.
Sierra Office Supplies will be donating both lined and copy paper, as well as pencils, folders, markers, erasers, highlighters, and stickers to the classrooms. Voyage will be supplying copy paper for the entire school, additional school supplies for the classrooms, and basketballs and hula hoops for recreation time.
